Mille Viae

Mille viae ducunt homines per saecula Romam - A thousand roads lead men forever to Rome, wrote Alain de Lille in the twelfth century. Mille Viae is an invitation to join on a trip from Belgium to Rome on the tracks of the ancient Roman and Medieval itineraries.

About me and my trip...

A few words, perhaps, to tell you more about myself and the purpose of all this...

I am born in Belgium, on the 21st of December some 35 years ago. Not much of an existence in these times of long life expectancy, but still a reasonable amount of time. "L'existence précède l'essence", disait Jean-Paul Sartre.

This is probably why I have looked at traveling as the best way to feed my keen interest in anything I don't know.

After having been a head hunter for the last seven year, I feel I need to take a breath of fresh air to put my life into perspective. Moreover, engaging in a long walk has long been a dream. Together with a strong interest for late antique and early medieval history, a pilgrimage to Rome seems to be the perfect combination to live through my passion and at the same time link it to a life experience.

Finally, this is also a spiritual journey, as such a long effort is a good way to be face-to-face with one's creator.

Please, do not hesitate to put comments and posts on this blog. I will try and do my best to respond to them on a regular basis. All suggestions, invitations along the road, encouragements are of course very welcome! Reciprocally, I look forward to share my experience with you.
